Happy James.

I finished the Space Invader socks, and James is over the moon.

Although James is extremely happy with these, I’m not so much. The first sock went great, after some tension issues at the top, and some mistakes on the heel. It was alot of fun to knit, watching the image appear as you went along.

On the second sock, however, the pattern is very different, it doesn’t have the same repetition as the other sock, and it was very difficult to keep the tension even and you end up with very long floats. As I was afraid of making my tension too tight again, I ended up with extra loose tension, and that sock is much bigger than the other, both lengthwise and in circumference, as you can see in this next photo. The heel, foot and toe of the second sock turned out great.

James, however, is ridiculously happy and loves them despite all the imperfections. Apparently, they’re the best present ever. If they were for me, I’d probably frog and give up, as it is I’m happy to let him enjoy them.

Here, however, are two WIP that I’m very excited about.

Fingerless gloves! As I’m sure you all recognize, Knitty’s Fetchingand Eunny’s Endpaper Mitts. The Endpaper Mitt I actually completed several weeks ago. It’s what sparked my interest in trying colourwork, and I loved the pattern. It was alot of fun to knit, I much prefer doing Fair Isle with a repeating pattern like this without long floats than a pattern like the socks. The pattern is easy to read and predict and thus, it’s alot easier to get a rhythm going.

Anyway, since I was too lazy to learn a new cast-on and bind-off method, I just used my regular one, which was a bit of a disaster since the top edge ended up much too tight. I didn’t bother starting the second mitt since I knew I wouldn’t wear them with such a tight edge. Yesterday, however, I came up with the bright idea of undoing the cast-off edge and redoing it with a different method. It work wonderfully, and now I have new motivation to cast on for number 2. The other glove, of course, is my first Fetching, which I completed on Friday. The two gloves have ended up with very similar colour schemes, and the Endpaper Mitt, of course, is the same yarn I used for the Space Invader Socks.

I attempted to go shopping today. Why is everything so uninspiring and why is it so difficult to find a black skirt?

I think they look awesome! And you did the duplicate stitching! I couldn’t do it, so I left it off. It’s great to see I’m not the only one who actually made the socks!
