Frankie by Kim Hargreaves from Breeze knit in Rowan Classic Pima Cotton in Badger {more details and pictures}

Sometimes I forget to write about my knitting, which feels pretty silly considering this blog first started as a knitting blog. But this weekend I finally got around to getting some pictures of a cardigan I’ve been wearing constantly since I finished it back in December. Meet Frankie.

Frankie

Frankie doesn’t look that impressive. It’s a simple cardigan, with a few quirks that I love: the voluminous sleeves, the pockets, the slouchy silhouette, the purl ridge “ribbing”. It’s the perfect cardigan to throw on when you just can’t be bothered, and since I knit it in grey (the exact same yarn and colour used in the original!) it goes with everything. I love it so much that I would even consider knitting it again in a different colour.

The yarn was a bit splitty to work with, but it creates a beautiful fabric. I’m usually not a fan of cotton, but with yarns like this, I might change my mind. And finally, a note on the pattern: it’s got lots of seam, which I know a lot of people don’t like. For this shape, however, I think they are essential for the sake of stability. The pattern also has plenty of ease built in. Being between sizes, I opted for the smaller size, and I’m glad I did. It’s still plenty oversized, and has a tendency to slip down my shoulders.

There are lots more pictures on Flickr and Ravelry if you want to see more!

Yay, a defense of seams! I completely agree – a cardigan shaped like that totally needs them to keep from looking like a sack after two wearings.

Looks lovely, by the way – so wearable and cozy. And pockets! I’ve been digging patch pockets in cardigans lately.
