Turn A Square

9 March 2010 in Knitting / Tags: , ,

As you may or may not be aware, my boyfriend, James, has spent the last three weeks in China for work. Since I knew he’d be dealing with temperatures of -30°C, I jumped at the chance of finally knitting him something warm to wear.

It might not be the most exciting thing I’ve ever knit, but then man-knitting rarely is. And the result  is exactly what he wanted, which is the most important thing. The MadTosh was beautiful to work with, and Jared’s pattern is such a great basic hat pattern, even without the stripes. I love the way the neat decreases form a square at the crown.

Ravelympics

12 February 2010 in Knitting / Tags: , ,

The Winter Olympics are almost here, and of course, that means it’s time for the Ravelympics. I failed in the 2008 games, but I have big plans for this year. Unfortunately, my plans have already been complicated slightly by my yarn not arriving in time, but I’m planning to use stash yarn for one of my projects: this beautiful Malabrigo Worsted in Sealing Wax. I fell in love with this colour when I used it for a gift scarf a couple of years ago, and promptly stashed some more for a scarf for myself. I’m finally planning on turning it into a cowl for myself. I’ll be casting on at as the Opening Ceremony starts, Saturday 1 PM Melbourne time.

Hopefully, my other yarn arrives soon, and I can share my other plans with you. What are you knitting for the Ravelympics?

Thanks so much for all your enthusiasm and well wishes on my previous post. I’m excited to start blogging again, and to share some of the other things I love with you all. First though, I thought I’d talk a bit about one of the projects I knit during my long absence.

This pattern has been pretty popular for the past few months, so I’m sure most of you have come across it before. I knit the small size, which makes a perfect little scarf to wear under my coat. Of course, my favourite thing about it is the colour: the perfect golden yellow semi-solid shade. And if you haven’t used Casbah before, I highly recommend it. It’s one of my very favourite yarns to work with.

This entry is quite a bit shorter than my usual FO posts, but I’ve decided to do it this way so I actually get things up instead of procrastinating writing up a project for months. If I have more to say, I’ll say more, but for a simple accessory like this, all it really needs is a quick sum-up.

So, first off, I wanted to thank everybody who’s left me lovely comments about my Ursa. I’m still working on getting back to everybody. I also wanted to thank Mary-Catharine and Karin who both gave me awards on their blogs!

And now, down to business. Unforunately, every project can’t be a resounding success, and as noted on one of my favourite podcasts a number of months ago, it’s important to also acknowledge our failures. So, my most recent failure, with definitely fits into the “disaster!” category.

So, what would you do if your WIP basket looked like this?

Completely obsessed with sweater-knitting

Yes, that would be six sweaters in progress. I’m nothing if not obsessive. Remember Socktoberfest? Yes, when I decide to do something, I go all out. {More}
